A little time to kill at San Francisco International Airport, but why let it go to waste. Thanks to the ministration of Chris, I brought a handy-dandy vial of Lombard’s Springbank Cask Strength. And since, as we know, I can’t take it with me, it’s time to smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Or in this case, peat ‘em if you got ‘em. And that is just what the powers-that-be did to this one. A dusty, intriguing peat creeps up out of the bottle (yes, this is a straight-from-the-bottle tasting). The first sip hits the palate with a warm, thicker-than-water splash. Solid peat develops, and still some floral notes peak through. The second sip brings the peat to the forefront. Sweat grains round out the ending without blunting it. Now for some sushi and a bottle of beer, my traditional pre-flight regimen, not to mention a keenly satisfying breakfast. Hopefully, the next dram I write of will be Nikka’s From the Barrel or perhaps another fine concoction of Ichiro’s. Until then, its time to cross my fingers and peruse the drink cart.
